Social Media Optimization is (Really) the new Search Engine Optimization

by Lim CS on September 24, 2007

I simply like the title of this article I saw on Search Engine Land the other day:

The Great Google Directory Ban of Sept 2007

To directories owners and those that “wasted” tons of moneys for those (paid) submissions, the news sounded as though another September tragedy.

Rand, as usual, made his comprehensive post to follow up this matter. So go read that if you are the ‘victims’ or just need to find out more.

Here’s my holistic take after this matter, not forgetting this too:

The old link building tactics are dead, slowly, little by little. And social media optimization is becoming (or, already) synonymous with search engine optimization.

That explained why I survived (or should I say thrive?) the ban. If given 2 hours to work on SEO, I prefer to write a kick ass blog post/article/link bait rather than doing mindless directory submissions. Yeah, you can argue that you can get people in DP to do it for you for like $10-30 (hundreds of directory submissions); but given that amount of money, I rather hire a kick ass copywriter to do his/her job.

You get the idea.
